HISTORY PROGRAMME
The department of History provides Honours and General course in History. The course/programme contains world history as well as Indian from prehistoric time to present according to the syllabus of University of Calcutta.

Departmental Facilities The department of History provides every education related facility for both Honours and General course students of the college. There is a departmental library from which the students may access books. The college library is full of text and reference books for every subjects as well as history. The Professors are always ready to help the students understanding any chapter or topic hazy for them and hard to understand. The department arrange educational tour every year to enhance their quest for knowledge and make them familiar with the society beyond their villages. The Professors are always ready to respond and co-operate the students beyond their scheduled class hours.

Session 2018-19
Historical Excursion at Hazaarduary, Murshidabad (3rd - 5th January, 2019)
The Department of History, Sundarban Hazi desarat College organized three days historical excursion at Hazaarduary, Murshidabad from 3rd – 5th January, 2022. Murshidabad was famous for its historical interest as it was capital of Bengal in the reign of Bengal Nawabs as numerous historical monuments bear the history for an important phase of Bengal’s history. This chapter in history of India saw the end of independent Bengal and beginning of Colonial rule.
The students from every semester from the department of History joined the programme to become enriched culturally and learn practically the chapters they went through the pages of history.
Session 2018-19
Excursion at House of Lord Canning, Canning Town South 24 Parganas on 5th February, 2019
Colonial history, though dark for Indian future, the colonizers developed India for their own benefits. Port Canning, railways connecting Kolkata from this town was a developmental work but for the students of History as well as the whole nation the place has its own importance. The students of History department went there, lead by their departmental Professors.

Excursion to National Museum Kolkata, 22nd November, 2019
On 22nd November, 2019, the department of History arranged an educational excursion to National Museum Kolkata, West Bengal. That was a part of their (students) syllabus for archive and museum studies. This is an integral part for research methodology because in future if they intend to work on museum or to collect data and evidences from archive, the visit to museum would help them to do it successfully. The one-day visit to Indian Museum, Kolkata was very helpful for the history honours students of the college. A guide from Indian museum showed vividly how to work and collect references or evidences from museum as well as the research process on museum. The syllabus of UGC regarding archive and museum studies for the students of history honours all over Indian colleges and universities is very helpful for the future research scholars.

Celebration of Netaji’s Birth Anniversary on 27th January, 2020
The students of the department of history celebrated Subhas Chandra Bose’s birth anniversary at college premises. They remembered Netaji, hero of Indian Nation.
Session 2020-21
Webinar in Collaboration with Poschimbongo Itihas Samsad on Sundarban its Culture Flora and Fauna on 11 September, 2021
The Webinar was in collaboration with the Department of Anthropology of and very effective for students, Professors as well as everyone for its environmental issue. The resource persons were Professor Anuradha Kayal, Department of History, Rabindrabharati University, Kolkata and Professor Jagdeep Oraon, Department of Anthropology and Tribal Studies, Sidho-Kahno-Birsha University, Purulia. The participation of the students was good.
Session 2021-22
The students of Department of History prepare Wall Magazine every year. During Covid period they didn’t stop their venture and created E-Wall Magazine and presented their excellence in writing of poems, poetries, topics of various kinds their minds’ and thoughts’ manifestation.
They use to do this under the surveillance and guidance of departmental Professors but usually they do this themselves and a little guidance is needed for them to prepare wall magazines with wonderful pictures and creativity in artwork.
Session 2022-23
The Departmental Wall Magazine is exotic for this year like every year. The students encrypted their mind’s expression on the Wall Magazine and presented their excellence in writing like before.
They use to do this under the guideline of departmental Professors but usually they do these themselves.
Session 2023-24
State Level Seminar on ‘How to Read and How to Write Some Preliminary Analysis of Research methodology on 10th October, 2023
Research methodology and regional history got utmost importance nowadays. The seminar was organized by the department of history of this college and the resource person was Professor Manas Dutta from Department of History, Aliah University, Kolkata. The students especially Honours category, got a good knowledge on the aforesaid topic.
Museum Visit on 23rd December, 2023
Archive and Museum visit is now a mandatory for the students of History Honours students and the departmental students went to National Museum, Kolkata lead by their departmental Professors and gain lots of knowledge as well as enjoyed the whole day a lot.
