About the Department

  1. About Department 

The Bengali department is one of the oldest department of our college. It started its journey in 1961 with PU & Pass Course. Subsequently in 1996-97 it started its Honours programme with 45 seats. Presently the intake capacity of the department in Honours 199 seats and in General 445 seats. The department deals with different branches of literature, poetics, art of rhetoric, linguistic, and prosody. Departmental Seminar, Publication of wall magazine etc. Cultivates the Bengali culture among teachers & students. Every year atleast 10 to 15 students admitted in regular P.G. Course.

Key Highlights:  The department gathered mass of faculties who devoted their time in teaching the subject. Presently the department has seven full-time teachers including three Associate, three Assistant, and one SACT Professor. Our Principal also is an active and efficient part of this department. The faculty members are quite actively involved in research and teaching activities. The teachers also participate in various workshops, seminars, paper presentation on relevant issues. The success rates of the students are almost cent percent and many of the students are enrolling into higher education each and every year. Cultural Activity is one of the positive features of the Bengali Department. As a co-curricular activity, the department publishes a yearly wall magazine named “UTSAHE” & “AVIJATRI” on regular basis. The department has also organized several departmental seminars, quizzes, debates, Annual cultural competitions, to encourage different soft skills of the students.  Every year we organize Departmental Freashers' Wellcome & Farewel pogramme. We celebrate Rabindra jayanti , Vidyasagar Jayanti, "AMBEDKAR JAYANTI" and International Mother Language Day.  we celebrated 200th Birth Centenary of Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar.  Department also frequently arranges some film-shows on syllabus related novel to enhance the sense of aesthetics and moral values of the students. Apart from the lecture method, the department has always inspired to improve the critical and analytical skills of the students through the seminar by the students, poem recitation and analysis,drama presentation etc.

  1. Best Practice(s) of Department: Every year Bengali department organizes different programs where both students and teachers participate actively. These programs are educational tours, lecture programs, wall magazine preparation, extempore speech competitions, reading competitions, college week rally, publishing departmental magazine , programs on sensitizing students for holistic development. In such programs students participate actively which enhances participative & experiential learning. Evaluation on regular basis. Encourage to participate in inter college and intra college sports and other co curricular activities. the teachers can devote personal attention to each student. The Bengali department has its own library. Apart from books sourced from the Central Library, the Department procures personal reference books, text books & other course related reference books.
