Establishment of Department: Sundarban Hazi Desarat College is one of the oldest colleges in Sundarban area established in 1961 but the science subjects were not introduced at beginning. Later in 1980 Physics department was established along with other science subjects in 1980. The department offers three year undergraduate (UG) general degree courses in with combinations of chemistry and mathematics.
Department overview:
There are less science departments at higher secondary schools in these areas. Apart from this, secondary school students of these blocks have fewer tendencies to take higher education in science. Physics department along with other science departments has taken initiatives to increase science awareness among school students in these areas.

Travel expense of the students is quite high leading to economic distress among poor students
Lack of interest among the students is one of the major problems at present.
Future Plans:
We want to collaborate with other departments and disciplines, such as ecology, genetics, computer science, and environmental science.
We want to improve undergraduate programs, incorporate more experiential learning opportunities, and engage in science outreach activities to inspire and educate the public.
We want to expand our facilities, including laboratories.
