About the Department

The Department was started in the year 1972 with B. Com Pass course and in the year 1996 the B.Com Honours Couse was introduced.  With the initiative to encourage the first generation learner to cram the concept of commerce, management and accounting and apply the same concept in the real field of overall and personal development and move toward the new avenues of life with confidence. The department with the support of the institute provides an opportunity for those deprived class of people who live near by the island of sundarbans and who can’t go beyond the sundarban island for economic, family and communication related reasons outside the coastal area of Sundarbans and nearby for further & higher studies

Key Highlights:

  • Enable the students the apply the concept of Personal Finance i.e. financial planning in managing their finance.
  • The Students can’t opt a career in Certified Financial Planner.
  • Build a career in the field of Direct Tax (Income Tax) and Indirect Tax(GST) practitioner.
  • Become a profession in the field of Costing i.e. Cost and Management Accountant (ICWA), Charter Accountant (ICAI), Company Secretary (ICSI) and ACCA
  • Become Competitive Examination expert by learning the basic concept of Mathematics and Reasoning.

Strength & Weakness:

  • Provide diversified subject knowledge along with career orientation in the field of Accounting, Tax, Finance, Cost and Management in the remote area of Sundarbans island in which student face the basic communication problem to reach the institute.
  • The department strength in terms of students’ enrolment is very less.

  • Practical Based Teaching using live Income Tax Server and GSTN Portal in demo mode. 
  • Provide Add on Course in the field of GST and Taxation.
  • Provide Competitive Examination Classes for Reasoning.

The department of Commerce is planning to run a Course Name Excel Masterclass along with Personal Financial Planning

Facilities of the Department

Department is well equipped with the Two Computer LABs, LAB-I one near IQAC Office Room and LAB-II Near Library which is used to carry out the practical classes of Computer Application in Business and E-filing of Tax Return and Computerized Accounting.  Students have the access to the library in both online and offline mode where they use INFLIBNIT Centre from the Central Library of College.

TEACHERS’ DAY POSTER PRESENTATION:

A teacher’s day poster presentation was organized by the Sundarban Hazi Desarat College on 5th Sept, 2023 in which various departments have participated i by presentation their poster, in which department of Commerce have also participated and launch their Departmental wall magazine and the theme was “Realing Teaching Vs AI Based Teaching” which is prepared by the students of the department of Commerce.

A special lecture on GST ACT, 2017 has been organized by department of Commerce, Sundarban Hazi Desarat College on 16th Sept, 2023, In which the Eminent Speaker Mr. NItyalal Sen, Associate Professor in Commerce , Bidhan Chandra College, Rishra, Hooghly has been delivered his lecture and the following points were discussed with the college students of various stream:

A state level webinar was held on Reverse Migration in India During Covid-19 on 10th July, 2021 which is jointly been organized by the department of Economics and Commerce in which Key note address was Given by Dr. Nirmalendu Nath, Former Principal Chittaranjan College, Kolkata and the invited speaker was Dr. Manturam Samanta. The webinar is chaired by Dr. Subash Biswas, Principal, Bamanpukur Humayan Kabir Mahavidalaya, North 24 Parganas. The webinar started with the welcome address given Dr. Uttam Kumar Guru, Co-ordinator, IQAC, Sundarban Hazi Desarat College, followed by the address of Chief Patron Dr. Debabrata Singha, Preseident, Governing Body, Sundarban Hazi Desarat College and Dr. Tarun Mandal. Principal, Sundarban Hazi Desarat College. The key note speaker, chairperson and other invited delegates have discussed on the following points:

  1. What is Reverse Migration?
  2.  How and why it is developed in India?
  3. What are the problems faced by the migrant labourer in India?
  4. What are the ways to solve the problem?

The programme was end with the vote of thanks given by Mrs. Granthana Sengupta, Assistant Professor, Deptt. of Economics.

A CAREER IN SPORTS AFTER GRADUATION: 

Discussion on how to develop a career in sports after graduation jointly organized by department of Physical Education and Commerce on 29th Nov, 2021 in which discussion was held on the following areas and it is being addressed by Mr. Snehasis Manna, SACT, deptt. of Physical Education, Sundarban Hazi Desarat College:

  • How to developed physical strength and stamina for playing sports?
  • How a select right sports for you?
  • Can a career be developed in sports after graduation from any stream? 

DISCUSSION ON ETHICAL ASPECT IN BUSINESS: 

A discussion on Ethical Aspect in Business has been jointly organized by the department of Commerce and Philosophy on 22nd Dec, 2021 in which Mr. Tapash Mandal, Assistant Professor, Department of Philosophy has discussed on the followings areas:

  • Ethical Aspect of Business.
  • Relation of Ethics with Business and Management. 
  • Is ethics influence in taking decision in business? 
  • Can business be done without ethics? 

BUDGET DISCUSSION 2022:

Discussion on Budget 2022-23 was held on 2nd Feb, 2022 were following areas have been discussed by Dr. Debottam Chakraborty, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics which has been jointly organized by the department of Commerce and Economics. Following areas have been discussed:

  • What is Financial Management?
  • How to identify source of funds for sports?
  • How to Manage source of funds?

BUSINESS QUIZ COMPETITION:

A Business Quiz Competition was organized by department of Commerce on 28th March, 2022 in which students from various branches of the college like- Political Science, Education, History, Mathematics, Commerce & Economics have been participated in which question asked on current business topic related Economy, Business and Finance. 

YEAR 2020-21:

TEACHERS’ DAY POSTER PRESENTATION:

A teacher’s day poster presentation was organized by the Sundarban Hazi Desarat College on 5th Sept, 2020 in which various departments have participated in Online mode by presentation their e-picture through google meet, in which department of Commerce have also participated and launch their Departmental wall magazine and the theme was “Which Form of Business Is Best to Do” which is prepared by the students of the department of Commerce. 

A DISCUSSION OF ECONOMIC & GDP SLOW DOWN DURING COVID-19:

A discussion using online platform has been conducted by the department of commerce for the students of Department of Commerce and other allied departments of the college on 23rd August, 2020 in which following areas have been taken up by the speaker and respected Princiapl Dr. Tarun Mandal, Sundarban Hazi Desarat College, Patankhali, West Bengal:

  • What is the current economic scenario of Indian economy?
  • Present Status of GDP Growth rate.
  • Why GDP growth rate is slowing down in India?

YEAR 2018-19

ROLE OF POWER AND CONFLICT IN BUSINESS POLICY MAKING:

A discussion on role of power and conflict has been conducted by the department of Commerce and Political science on 20th Sept, 2018. In which key note address was given by Mr. Sanjay Bala, Part Time Teacher, Deptt. of Political Science. In which following points have been discussed:

  • What is Power and Conflict?
  • Relation between power and conflict.
  • Positive and Negative aspects of power and conflict.
  • How to use power and conflict in business decision and policy making?

A group discussion was conducted by the department of Commerce on 23rd August, 2017 in which students of the departments have made a Group Discussed on the topic “GST (GOODS AND SERVICE TAX, 2017)” in which following points have been discussed by the students:

BRAIN STORMING SESSION ON INNOVATIVE BUSINESS IDEA:

A brain storming session on innovative business idea has been conducted by the department of Commerce on 19th January, 2018 among the students in which how a business can be started with innovative and new business idea have been discussed. The key points of discussion were:

  • Discussion on types of business like: Honey Bee Farming, Fish Farming and innovative use of lands near college and sundarban’s island. 
  • How to collect venture fund to start a small business?
  • How to approach local and state level institution to collect funds?
