About the Department

Economics is considered as an ever green subject due to its high utility and huge demand in the job markets. Economics is a very important discipline both for career as well as from social of view. 

 

ESTABLISHMENT OF DEPARTMENT : This department was established in the academic year 1962-63.It started its journey with a general under graduate degree course under University of Calcutta with students and the dedicated teacher like Prof. Ram Krishna Giri.

Teaching method includes 

Lecture method of teaching supported by  chalk & talk

ICT method supported by power point presentation. 

Collaborative method of teaching in a class in the form of group discussion.

Online classes were taken during the COVID Pandemic.

Direct interaction with students on a regular basis to know their issues and help them in solving their problems.

 

STRENGHTS :

  • Good teacher- student relationship.
  • Full involvement of the students in departmental activities like  wall magazine preparation, micro-teaching, seminar.
  • Arrangement of inter-departmental  classes.

BEST PRACTICES :

  • Students can access the academic plan of the department on-line from the very beginning of the session.
  • Notes are provided which can be accessed on-line in the Repository
  • Besides Internal Assessment, class tests are also arranged to continuously evaluate the students’ performance.
  • The department has started publishing wall magazine  titled UNNATI from the academic year 2015-16. The involvement in the preparation of wall magazine make the students more inquisitive about the topic. It seems that the students are really enjoying the total preparation process.
  • Micro-Teaching : This activity on the part of the students helped the performing student to clear his/her concept about the topic. If any other student has a question on the topic he / she can ask it. Their interaction on the topic  in the presence of the teacher helps them to clear their queries on the topic.

DEPARTMENTAL SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: 

Co-curricular Activities :  The students participate in sports and cultural activities of the college whole-heartedly.

FUTURE PLANS :

To decrease the drop-out rate of students.

To introduce Honours Course in near future.

To introduce a short-term course on Economic analysis of different government projects.
